Jamie Lutton is a familiar face behind the counter of Twice Sold Tales. You may recognize the cats as well. While four cats live in the store, they aren’t really anyone’s specific pets. “They’re actually here to keep mice out of the building,” Lutton tells CHS. “There are lots of rats and mice because they eat the scraps from Dick’s… their job is to make sure we don’t have any trouble like that.” Continue reading

Capitol Hill Pets | Bumping fists with Cali on Broadway
Heather Strock has owned Broadway’s Canary Salon for almost six years. If you’ve had your hair cut there in the past year, you’ve likely seen Cali, the two year old, excited but super sweet, pit mix. Now found lounging in the lobby area, Cali was formerly at the Seattle Animal Shelter in Ballard for more three months. She is a well behaved dog who can fist bump on command. Give it a shot. It’s fun. Continue reading
‘High tech dog houses’ where you can park your pup coming to Capitol Hill
For the first time in 50 years, Seattle has more than 100,000 children. But we all know there are way more fur babies on Capitol Hill.
If it comes to being the most dog-friendly city in the US, Seattle is top dog. That’s according to real estate broker Redfin and Rover, the Uber for dog sitters and walkers. The companies compiled a list of cities with the highest amounts of dog walkers, sitters and walks, and combined the data with the amount of home sale listings that mention “dog”. Both Seattle-based companies announced that their hometown was the number 1 dog-friendly city. Chicago and Denver came in second and third.
Brooklyn-based company DogSpot has come to the same conclusion: People in Seattle love dogs (and walking them). Next month, the company will install six high tech dog houses — to leave Fido in while shopping — in the Seattle area, including on the Hill, in a partnership with supermarket chain QFC.
“Seattle’s a tech-friendly and dog-obsessed city,” says Rebecca Eyre, director of communications at DogSpot. “Those things make it an amazing market for us.” Continue reading
Capitol Hill Pets | Aggie, comforted in Cal Anderson
Delsey Huitt had her hands full in Cal Anderson with her fairly new-to-the-family pup, Aggie. No, not named because of the Texas Aggies, but because “I was going to name her Maggie, but one day I decided to drop the M, and Aggie was born,” Huitt says. Gentle and sweet, Aggie is a year and seven months old mix of German Shepherd and something else. A rescue from Seattle Humane, Aggie has only been with Huitt for about two months, so give her a pet, and don’t mind her whimpers, she’s an “excited crier.” Continue reading
Capitol Hill Pets | Kevin the Shoe Dog on Broadway
Aaron was crossing Broadway when CHS spotted the giant floofer by his side. Kevin, a lab/Pyrenees mix can often be found with Aaron at his store, Likelihood at 11th and Union. Kevin has his own instagram @KevinTheShoeDog, but if you want the real life thing, you can always go in for some petting.
We ask photographer Alex Garland to follow marchers in the rain and do crazy things like trying to make yet another picture of yet another huge apartment building look interesting. We thought we’d ask him to do something a little more fun. Capitol Hill Pets is a semi-regular look at our furry, fuzzy, feathered, and finned friends found out and about on Capitol Hill.
Capitol Hill Pets | Seymour at Plymouth Pillars
We found Ramsey (human) watching over Seymour (canine) at the Plymouth Pillars dog park at Pine and Boren. Seymour was found slobbering on most of the smaller dogs, but that’s just his nature. Seymour is a one-year, five-month-old Newfoundland, and is still growing. Continue reading
Capitol Hill Pets | Alligator the Santa Border Beagle in Volunteer Park
Alligator, a “Border Beagle” half Border Collie, half Beagle — “we think, as proven by Google image searches” — was seen prancing about in his fancy Santa costume and big red bow at Volunteer Park and leading his owner Sarah on a tour of the best smells. Now ten years old, Alligator was adopted three years ago and has become part of the family. Seattle4Dogs walkers were also out and about in the park for a holiday-themed walk so he didn’t feel alone in his festive garb. He is known to get into any food, literally anywhere in the house, even “on top of the refrigerator,” so if he comes to visit, lock up your tasty treats.

Capitol Hill Pets | Tucker loves bacon
Mark, a human, and Tucker, an 11-month-old Shepherd/Lab mix were getting out some energy at Cal Anderson Park when we spied that floppy tongue. Mark, Olivia, and Tucker live just two blocks down the road. “We just moved here about a week ago and have been coming here every day since,” the human informs. “He’ll do anything to play and loves bacon.” Us too, Tucker. Capitol Hill Pets | Volunteer Park Hilloween parade edition
Hilloween 2018 has begun. Over the weekend, hundreds turned out on a foggy Sunday for the first ever Volunteer Park Halloween pet parade. Dozens of fur babies dressed up for the day vying for contest prizes and treats for tricks. You can check out the rainbow dogs, superheroes, not an actual dairy cow, a rabbit, a monkey with a banana dog, and more, below. Continue reading
Capitol Hill Pets | Dora, the Chinese Crested Brazilian comfort dog of Pike/Pine
Dora Miss ‘Merica is a “Chinese Crested Powder Puff Mini” that is often carried around Capitol Hill by Travis, “The Waxing Diva” who runs Salon DEWI just down the street from Cafe Pettirosso where we found the pair getting their morning coffee. Dora is super “comforting” which might be nice as Travis specializes in Brazilians. Give Dora a pet next time you get waxed.
