One arrest after reported shootout at 21st and Union

There were no reported injuries and one arrest as a repeatedly contested Central District corner was the scene of a shootout involving multiple assailants Thursday afternoon. The evening brought further gun violence in the city as two teens reportedly exchanged gunfire outside the Aki Kurose Middle School. A 17-year-old was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition and a 14-year-old taken into custody, police say.

In the Central District incident, an exchange of gunfire around 4:15 PM at 21st and Union involved at least two shooters with one suspect on foot fleeing the area southbound, according to eyewitness accounts and multiple 911 callers. Another shooter was reportedly the driver of a gray Chevy Malibu that police continued to search for as the collected evidence at the E Union shooting scene. Continue reading

Tuesday night shots fired incidents continue string of gun violence across Capitol Hill, Central District

Seattle Police detectives are investigating after two shooting incidents Tuesday night in the Central District with no reported injuries.

The shooting incidents join a string of gun violence in the area including three King County shootings this week that left multiple victims and one Bothell police officer dead.

In one incident Tuesday night at 21st and Union, witnesses said a fight or argument in the street was followed by multiple shots fired. Police reported no injuries in the 6:45 PM gunfire and said four shell casings were recovered on the southwest corner of the intersection, according to East Precinct radio updates. Later around 8 PM, gunfire sent people running and speeding away from Powell Barnett Park along MLK. There were no reported injuries. Continue reading
