What is the Parade and Costume contest?

We want to celebrate Lunar New Year in style! On January 29, the International District will be hosting many festivities — booths, lion dances, martial artists, musicians, and many more! This one-of-a-kind event is perfect for families with young children. Come dressed in your best Asian cultural attire (and remember, it’s the year of the rabbit!) and take a short march around the International District. There will be many photo opportunities available.

The best dressed children (decided by a panel of judges) will win cash prizes of $100, $50, and $25, made possible through our generous sponsors, Pepsi, Key Bank, Tsue Chong Noodles & Fortune Cookies Co., and community sponsor Ron Chow.

The rules

In order to participate in the parade, a child has to be younger than 12 years old and wear anything culturally relevant attire to the Lunar New Year Celebration. For instance, they can wear clothes that are gold and red. Parents are highly encouraged to dress up and to march with their children. There is no cost to participate.
Participants may register the day of the parade, though it is appreciate if registration occurs prior to Jan. 29.

On Jan. 29, be sure to sign-in at Northwest Asian Weekly (412 Maynard Ave. S, Seattle, WA 98104) before lining up for the parade.
