The inevitable next chapter in the Barbarella-Obama mural saga begins like this. From neighbor by2drumallday3:
I was so sad this morning to see this new painting vandalized. Someone spray painted over Obama’s face.
Have not verified this — will check it out in the morning. Not a surprise if it’s true but still disappointing.
Also on the unverified front, a commenter claiming to be the owner of El Tajin says the Broadway Mexican restaurant is, indeed, out of business:
To all of you who dined at El Tajin, I appologize for closing the doors. We opened El Tajin with the purpose of bringing back the Mexican home cooking many of us (Mexicans) who migrated to the U.S. crave. Our goal was to provide the best Mexican delicacies in Seattle, but unfortunately the timing for this terrible economy and the lack of resources pushed us to close. The restaurant business is a tuff business when there is not enough clientale and for those who become regular clients, I thank you for your loyalty, and also for those who might of had a bad experience at El Tajin, I appologize as well. I really enjoyed serving you my family’s recipes. Have a great life and keep supporting your favorite restaurants, they need you more than ever.
Sincerely,
El Tajin.
Someone could be faking but by the looks of things, El Tajin ain’t coming back.
Yes, the Obama painting was vandalized. It must have happened on Friday night. I walked by it on my way home from work late Friday afternoon, and it looked great. My husband walked by on Saturday and it had been tagged.
I’m not normally prone to such violent fantasies… but tagging offends me. It is a despicably selfish act perpetrated by talentless, slow-minded attention whores.
For all you who STILL think that some tagging/graffiti is OK, this HAS to convince you of the folly of your point of view. This heinous act is yet another example that “there is no honor among thieves.” (aka graffiti “artists”).
I believe the new tag over Obama says something to the effect of “I only care about dead presidents.” Must be a capitalist tagger.
Haha, why would this of all things change my point of view? I’m an Obama supporter, but the man’s not sacred and neither is an image of his face. Tagging a mural of Obama is no more heinous than tagging the Space Princess was.
…anybody know the scoop on what happened to Pike St. Grill? They were only open for maybe two months, and the place has been closed now for several weeks at least.
It’s like that location has taken over the mantle of “most cursed restaurant venue on CapHill”, since it appears Smith up on 15th is going to break the curse on that particular spot.
On the case :)
I went by el tajin yesterday and their neon OPEN sign was lit. Any word on when they’re closing for good?
According to my inside source, the tagger was the same guy that tagged her space girl mural. Lame.
Certainly appears to be the same guy. However it looks like someone then went over all the white and red tags in black.
Of course it appears to be the same guy… All taggers are despicably selfish, talentless, slow-minded attention whores. (I *never* generalize.)
