Seattle Police say that injuries to a man shot in the groin in what he said was an overnight street robbery on Capitol Hill appear to have been self-inflicted.
CHS reported here on the last early Thursday morning incident in which the victim said he was robbed and shot at Harvard and Denny by a black male with chin-length dreadlocks, wearing a beanie and a blue rain jacket.
The East Precinct’s report on the incident casts doubt on the victim’s story, reporting that the man first told officers he was held up but later admitted to police at the hospital that he shot himself. SPD says the man was hit with one shot with the bullet traveling “through his genitals and into his thigh.”
The shooting appeared to be accidental. Police say the injuries were “consistent with a negligent discharge of a firearm being carried at the right appendix inner-waistband.”
Police searched the man and the street and sidewalks where the shooting took place but could not locate a firearm. They say the man entered a 10th Ave E apartment building after the shooting before meeting police and Seattle Fire back out on the street and believe the firearm may have been left in the building.
The man was being treated at Harborview in critical condition.
Police say the man could face charges in the incident. “XXXX is a convicted felon with a most recent felony conviction of unlawful possession of a firearm,” the SPD report reads. “XXXX is prohibited from possessing firearms, making shooting himself a violation of RCW 9.41.040.1A.”

This is why one should wait for the investigation results before getting all whiny.
Whether he was robbed and shot or shot himself makes zero difference to my sense of safety on the streets of our neighborhood. Both are bad.
Both ARE bad, but I dunno, I feel like reports of an unknown person robbing people at gunpoint and shooting them at large on the streets of my neighborhood are still gonna be slightly more alarming than reports of some known local idiot accidentally shooting his own dick off with a gun he wasn’t allowed to have, in a private apartment…maybe that’s just me though!
Yes, either way there was a felon with an illegal firearm 3 blocks from my home.
I like to think everything that needs to be said has been said here.
Maybe bloggers should “wait for the investigation results” before publicly reporting on regional events so that no public opinions are momentarily formed. You’d probably whine about that, I guess. On the other hand, I can handle updates and new information with no problems.
Thatβs a shame
Sounds like Darwinism in action.
A witness said…
All I heard was a loud *BANG* then a man yelled NUTS!”
Classic macho gun guy move, shooting his own dick off to show how tough he is.
