Just over three years of business is a pretty good run for a tiny retail operation. Sadly, the thrill is gone. Capitol Thrill has closed.
The E Pike boutique shuttered headed into the holiday break as owner Jeff Gonzales told customers about his planned closure citing the location’s expensive lease and spotty business.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have supported my little shop over the years. Your smiles, stories and support have meant the world to me and I have treasured every moment creating a safe space for queer artists, brands and community in this incredible neighborhood,” Gonzalez said.
“With rising rent costs and lack of consistent store traffic, I’ve made the decision to focus more on my Print Shop and online/wholesale brands.”
CHS reported on the opening of the 1200-block E Pike shop here in 2021 as the designer behind Choke Print Shop stepped into Capitol Hill brick and mortar retail with a store focused on the art, designs, and creations of the neighborhood’s queer creator communities,
2024 brought a new neighbor to E Pike that will keep a similar spirit alive. CHS reported here on the opening of Queertique in the old subterranean Castle shex shop space. Owner Tyler Huang says he hopes to grow the gallery and art and design shop into a new center of the community.
No new business has yet been announced for Capitol Thrill’s former 1205 E Pike location.
