Capitol Hill nightlife gun violence: Man treated at downtown hotel after reported Minor Ave shootout

Thanks to a CHS reader for the picture from the scene

A man shot in the leg was being treated at a downtown hotel and Seattle Police were searching for the gunman and a getaway car in a last call shooting early Sunday amid Capitol Hill nightlife crowds on Minor Ave.

Seattle Police rushed to the area outside the Still Liquor nightclub and nearby Vice Seattle after reports of multiple shots fired at 2 AM.

One witness tells CHS there appeared to be an exchange of gunfire on the street outside Still. Glass was shattered in the windows of the building during the shootout.

Police found no victims at the scene but were called to the Hyatt Regency a few blocks away where they found a man suffering from a gunshot injury to his leg. Seattle Fire was called to the Howell Street hotel and provided treatment before transporting the man to Harborview.

A reported possible second victim described as a young woman carried from the scene near Minor and Pine was not immediately located.

Police also investigated a shooting involving multiple vehicles at 24th and Union around 3:45 AM in the Central District. Multiple 911 callers reported the gunfire south of the intersection and vehicles leaving the scene. Police reported finding no victims at the scene but located shell casings and damage to a window. Another 911 caller reported their window was shot and they located a bullet fragment inside their nearby residence.

The burst of Capitol Hill nightlife gun violence follows a deadly shooting on 11th Ave amid nightlife crowds in October that claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman.

Police also continue to investigate the shooting that sent a man and a woman to the hospital from an 11th Ave memorial for the victim the next morning. Police say that they recovered shell casings from multiple weapons in the second incident ranging from a rifle to a handgun.

The area’s nightlife gun violence has flared on Minor in the past including this January 2023 incident that also left Still’s glass shattered. In early 2023, Mint Lounge on the Pine side of the block was permanently closed after pressure from surrounding businesses and city and Seattle Police officials over nightlife gun violence in the area.

The area around Minor below the Melrose Market added a new player to its nightlife scene this year. CHS reported here on the new Vice Seattle club now operating beneath Melrose Market.

According to East Precinct radio updates, witnesses reported a suspect from the shooting described as a black male wearing a black hoodie and black sweatpants was driven away in a grey Mercedes last seen headed eastbound on Pike.

Seattle Police did not immediately locate the vehicle. There were no reported arrests.

Officers locked down Minor during the investigation and were trying to gather video evidence from nearby cameras including a security installation on the soon to open new location of Voodoo Donuts on the block’s corner.

UPDATE: SPD said it recovered around 30 shell casings and bullet fragments at the scene.

yeah 2 clubs side by side on a dark, almost alley-like, street – feels like a recipe for trouble. Maybe more-so than Mint.

That explains the gunshots and screeching tires that I heard that night

Are we now meh and indifferent enough that another weekend of area gunshots are hardly a lively thread? Neighbors, this doesn’t make us edgy and progressive. It makes us lack community cohesion and sad.
