Seattle Police seeks public’s help in Kenji Spurgeon murder investigation

Kenji Spurgeon

Seattle Police have put out a new call for the public’s help in solving the murder of Kenji Spurgeon who was gunned down in an E Pine parking lot in July.

In a brief update posted Tuesday, the department said only that detectives were looking for additional information in the case:

Seattle Police Department detectives are seeking help from the community to obtaining information about a shooting that occurred on July 1st in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. If you have any information, please call the Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. Incident Number 24-179138/East Precinct

SPD provided no additional information about the update and its renewed call for assistance in the case. In the past, the department has said the release of homicide investigation information typically involves approval from detectives and prioritizes “protecting the integrity of the investigation.”  The department affiliated Crime Stoppers program will sometimes also offer a small reward for information.

SPD did not say if a reward was currently being offered in the Spurgeon murder case.

CHS reported here on Spurgeon and a fundraiser to help return the 23-year-old’s body to family in Alabama.

“Kenji was a bright light in our lives, known for an infectious smile and quick wit,” a remembrance reads. “Kenji had an extraordinary ability to uplift everyone around with laughter, a joke, a song, or a dance. Kenji inspired us all to seek joy and be cheerleaders for one another.”

CHS reported here on the investigation of the early July 1st shooting that left Spurgeon shot to death in the E Pine parking lot behind Teto’s Cantina across from Cal Anderson Park.

The police are worthless. We need to ban guns if we want to prevent gun violence. Not spend millions of dollars on a government office that asks the public for help after a person is already shot dead.

Yes, because we should expect all of our law enforcement to be clairvoyant… they should be able to just focus their minds on it and find out who’s going to commit a crime before they do…
wait.. I think someone made a movie about this.

It would be amazing if there were no guns, but unfortunately cities and states in the U.S don’t have the authority to ban them outright, so unless you have a way to circumnavigate the constitution, and the federal government, we are going to need an alternative plan however imperfect.

The police have there hands tied.. why don’t we defend the police some more.. Yeah let’s ban guns so us law abiding citizens can’t protect ourselfs.. I’m a gun owner and I live out in the rule area where people think twice about breaking into our houses because we love our guns

The people who don’t care are the ones who shoot, stab, beat, and harass our fellow Capitol Hill residents and visitors. Let’s keep that part straight before we go off on whether the police do their jobs or not. The perpetrators are the real problem. Say it first.
