Last November, CHS broke the news on that Henry’s Gymnasium — part gym, part social club, part bar — was coming to Capitol Hill.
This November, the new addition to Boylston Ave will finally open.
Extravagance takes time.
“Capitol Hill and Seattle will be gaining a landmark establishment in design and philosophy. I am confident Henry’s will present an exciting mix of lighting, sound, and finishes acting in concert to produce an environment unique to the fitness industry,” Jeff Nagel of the NAGELsport firm that designed the new venue said in a press release on the opening soon gymnasium.
“Of the several hundred fitness projects we have designed to date, this will be the most extravagant design — extravagant as a gift to the users, not an icon to itself,” Nagel said.
The new Henry’s will fill all three floors of the $6.2 million adaptive reuse overhaul of The Boylston Garage by developer Asana Partners that will turn the building into a new-era fitness facility complete with the latest workout equipment and a bar:
“Serving the Capitol Hill community from the Boylston Garage is a dream come true,” said Glen Swain, owner of Henry’s Gymnasium. “We’ve always had a great affinity for this part of Seattle — there’s a depth of character to the area and the people that mirrors our brand. Creating the inclusive and colorful atmosphere that defines Henry’s within the walls of a timeless building is exciting. We’re looking forward to expanding beyond our original Queen Anne location and welcoming new members in Capitol Hill.”
The new Capitol Hill Henry’s will be the second in the city. The first Henry’s debuted the concept early last year in Lower Queen Anne.
Above Boylston, Henry’s Capitol Hill will be filled with “high-energy music” and “crystal chandeliers throughout.”
“Henry’s will offer an immersive, elevated fitness experience. Intended as a connection point for members, the main level will be dedicated to recovery and wellness. A Finnish sauna, cold plunge, and hydromassage are some of the highlights,” the announcement reads. The gym also will include a med spa, member lounge, and bar serving smoothies, pre/post-workout drinks, beer, and wine.”
Meanwhile, on the lower level, members will find free weights and fitness equipment, Gym80 Cardio machines and a group HITT studio.
The soon to open Henry’s is finished in reclaimed wood “including 118-year-old internal doors sourced from an old seminary.” Henry’s says the space’s overall design will “celebrate Capitol Hill, known as a vibrant counterculture district with a thriving LGBTQ population.”
“Spanning the interior will be a curated art collection including pieces commissioned through local graffiti artists to reflect the broad cross-section of cultures represented at the gym,” Henry’s says. “A dedication to the 1960s-era Stonewall riots and paying homage to Harvey Milk within the space through art are part of the plans to honor the local community.”
Henry’s Gymnasium is accepting new members and will open November 1st at 1617 Boylston or an opening date. Learn more at henrysgymnasium.com.

“Henry’s says the space’s overall design will “celebrate Capitol Hill, known as a vibrant counterculture district with a thriving LGBTQ population.””
Ah yes, the historic Capitol Hill, full of diverse individuals able & willing to pay *checks notes* $160 or SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS a month(???) for a membership to work out in a room full of tech bros, chandeliers fitted with colorful LEDs, and brain-splittingly loud pop music. Of course.
I’m just gonna say it.
Straight men get your permission slips signed by your girlfriends ready because…
I won’t say it. But do I really have to?
How is it inclusive? Because they mention the LGBTQ history of the hill? Yawn.
“The gym also will include a bar serving pre/post-workout beer and wine.”
Wait, what?
Haven’t you heard? More alcohol, more gainzzz bro
How douche-tastic.
Jesus H. this city continues to progress in the WRONG DIRECTION.
I remember another November 1st opening day for 1617 Boylston! So glad the building stands and got the improvements it needed and deserved. It is a wonderful location with a lot of good memories made within its walls. Wishing the new tenants all the best.
Inclusive?? henry means EXCLUSIVE with those rates in a poor looking hood like CH, just take a walk on the smelly streets bro… place is build for the yuppies not for the poor inclusive population of this hood
