2024’s final months are shaping up to be a full-scale political battleground. In addition to the presidential election looming in November, there are major local decisions to be made including the massive field vying for governor. August’s picks will reduce that big field to two.

The primary will also set up a final run for the two candidates who emerge from the race to replace retiring veteran lawmaker and affordable housing champion Frank Chopp in the 43rd state congressional district.

Seattle voters will also select the two candidates to move forward in the race for the citywide Position 8 seat on the Seattle City Council.

The influential 43rd District Democrats political group has made its choices in those races. CHS reported here on the group’s endorsements of Alexis Mercedes Rinck, Shaun Scott, and Bob Ferguson in those races.

For the decideds, your ballot must be postmarked by August 6th or returned to a ballot drop box by 8 PM that night.

For the rest of us, CHS will have some updates in coming days about the candidates in some key races including the battle to replace Chopp in the 43rd and the race for the citywide seat on the council

Ferguson is the easy vote. Reichert is pro Trump and voted alongside him in Congress. He is also anti-woman. He is anti-progress. He’s anti Climate too.

Washington is gonna Flip so purple. This election is the most anxiety riddled surreal experience I’ve ever been apart of as a voter and I’m exhausted. I don’t watch television! And this all stinks of a bad script, that was once pretty funny #VEEP.

My impression of Reichert is that he is a rare bird these days: a moderate Republican. Am I wrong? What is the evidence that he is “maga?”

In the 2021 general election the 43rd endorsed Gonzales for Mayor, Mosqueda and Oliver for the SCC and NTK for city attorney. Only 1 of their candidates won.

In 2023 they endorsed 4 of the candidates for city council and only 1 won (Strauss).

Saying they are influencial is giving them a bit more credibility than they deserve.

43rd District Democrats lost all credibility with me after they repeatedly endorsed Marxist Kshama Sawant. This group is a joke.

The 43rd district democrats might consider endorsing more actual Democrats. Mr. Scott certainly is not one.
