While Tuesday’s meeting of the Seattle City Council’s transportation committee included some shenanigans, the council members also found time to move an important honorary renaming of a First Hill street forward.

Tuesday, the committee approved a resolution designating 8th Ave between Seneca and Spring in front of First Hill’s Town Hall Seattle as Wier Harman Way.

Harman served as the executive director at Town Hall for 17 years and is remembered as a champion for Seattle’s arts and cultural community. Harman died in December at the age of 57.

Once approved by the full council, the city can move forward with installing new signs on 8th to mark the new designation.

Other area honorary streets include Rev. Dr. S. McKinney Ave along part of 19th Ave near Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

The 2019 renaming of Denny near Capitol Hill Station went one step farther. E Barbara Bailey Way is a full and complete renaming of that stretch of the street.
