KUOW: Two Garfield High School coaches accused of sexually assaulting and abusing student

One Garfield High School coach is facing trial on two counts of child rape and another is being accused of “sexual misconduct and boundary violations with students” for alleged sexual assaults and abuse of a student athlete at the school, KUOW reports:

Walter Junior Jones, 46, faces two felony child rape charges in King County Superior Court. He is accused of forcibly raping the girl when she was 13, in 2013, when he was a volunteer weight training coach at the Seattle high school, and she was a middle school student practicing with the high school team. Jones allegedly sexually assaulted the girl repeatedly for the next two years, and threatened to kill her and her family if she ever reported him, according to court records.

Marvin Wayne Hall, 50, was fired from his job as head coach of the Garfield girls’ basketball team and resigned from his security staff position at the school in 2022 following reports that he had an abusive sexual relationship with the girl beginning in 2017, when she was 17.

The KUOW report comes after a Seattle Public Schools investigation and as the trial for Jones approaches. It is not clear if the former student, now 24, is suing the district over the abuse allegations but KUOW’s report includes details from court records laying out the woman’s legal testimonies against the two men.

Jones has been on electronic home monitoring as the legal proceedings around the charges has played out.

Hall has not been charged with a crime.

The case against Jones is scheduled to go to trial in May, according to court records.

Why is this man, who threatened his underage victim with violence, allowed to be out in the community while he awaits trial? As a victim of SA myself I will guess that his victim(s) don’t feel safe with him here. No one should. Where is the outrage that this person violated a minor?
