The Boca family of restaurants including its Broadway steakhouse and its sibling Argentine bakery remains closed and boarded-up following the death of founder Marco Casas Beaux.
CHS reported here on the early January death of the 72-year-old restaurateur behind Broadway’s Boca Restobar and Grill, the Boca Pizzeria and Bakery just down the street, and the Boca steakhouse in the old Queen City Grill on 1st Ave.
“We will never know anyone like him. He was bigger than life and put everything into his work,” the restaurant family said about Casas Beaux as they shuttered the three locations with plans to reopen after a brief pause to honor the veteran of the Seattle food and drink scene.
“We will strive to keep Boca Restaurants alive and thriving just as Marco would have wanted,” an announcement read.
Weeks later and the three venues remain shuttered with boards going up over the Broadway restaurant and the bakery location.
In an automated response to a CHS inquiry, the closure is described as temporary. “We ask that you respect our family’s need to grieve, and we ask for patience as we get our affairs in order,” the message concludes.
The passing of a small business owner can come with significant challenges for family members and for employees as matters of estate or issues around probate are settled.
Casas Beaux had already begun leaning on family before his death. CHS talked with the restaurateur in 2023 about the planned expansion of his Broadway restaurant to grow into a more complete steakhouse, adding an asadora and more seating and the growing role his daughter Andrea Casas Beaux has played in the growth of Boca.
For now, that growth is on the hold and the Boca restaurants and bakery remain quiet. Hopefully the pause will, indeed, be temporary.

Hope they return – I thought their food was awesome and the bakery/coffee shop had a great atmosphere
We miss you Boca!
Sad to hear. Hoping they reopen in good shape, I was really liking the new place.
Losing Boca and the bakery would be a real tragedy for North Capitol Hill
Boca has been the best addition to Capitol Hill in years. I recommend it to everyone, and I hope the family is doing ok.
