CHS Pics | Capitol Hill cold snap as Seattle could see lowest temperature since 2010

Cal Anderson got a crusty coat Thursday night

With a light dusting of snow and an hour of charming snowflakes, an arctic blanket of cold moved over Capitol Hill and the Puget Sound Thursday night as the area moves into a few days of below freezing weather including some of the coldest temperatures seen in Seattle since 2010.

Capitol Hill’s streets were mostly dry and gritty Friday morning after the Seattle Department of Transportation’s busy night of treating roadways and temperatures so cold that most lingering moisture evaporated in the night. The neighborhood’s sidewalks received no such treatment — it’s not the city’s policy — but nature mostly took care of the job.

The city’s homelessness and shelter resources including emergency locations have been mobilized to help give people warm places to stay.

The forecast shows the cold snap delivering a low below 20 F in Seattle and — maybe — the coldest temperatures we’ve seen here since 2010 when it hit 14 F at Sea-Tac before temperatures climb back above freezing on Monday’s MLK Day holiday.
