You have to admire the slow path Dingfelder’s Jewish Delicatessen is climbing on Capitol Hill.
Dingfelder’s opened as a walk-up at 14th and Pine in 2018. In the beginning, you couldn’t sit down. The interior wasn’t open to customers until months later and they didn’t have a website.
2019 brought a wonder of modern convenience: indoor seating at the deli.
2020 brought bagels.
Now, 2024 brings breakfast at Dingfelder’s. Here’s longtime friend of the site Tammy Jo reporting in the CHS Facebook Group:
DINGFELDER’S DELICATESSAN is finally serving Deli Breakfast!! They are open 7am-7pm Sun-Thurs // 7am-9pm Fri-Sat 1318 E Pine The Kaiser Roll is New York good. A true egg & cheese on Kaiser is available 7 days a week on Capitol Hill. Also cookies & pickles. YUM.
One highlight among many is the breakfast menu’s corned beef and pastrami hash that puts leftovers from the Dingfelder’s house creations to good morning use. You’ll also find cheese blintzes with a choice of blueberry or cherry compote — “just like Bubbie used to make.”
The new milestone for Dingfelder’s comes as the deli from Stephanie Hemsworth and Vance Dingfelder marked five years of business in 2023.
The new breakfast menu comes amid other changes at the corner as a new four-story apartment building is rising behind Dingfelder’s, overshadowing the single story deli. There are no plans for redeveloping the deli anytime soon, apparently. Vance Dingfelder told CHS last year he hopes to keep his lease as long as he can.
“I love the building, and if they do develop the building, they’re probably going to build retail in the bottom,” he says. “And if that happens, that’s where I’m going to be.”
Dingfelder’s is located at 1318 E Pine. Learn more at dingfelders.com.

where is the matzo brei?
So as I former NYCer, I’ve been waiting for a reasonably priced egg and cheese on a roll forever. I went this morning at 11:45 based on this blog post, and they said they only do them until 11am.
My day was ruined and my disappointment was immeasurable.
So might want to add that to the post.
My Condolences….hope you can soldier on….
