Police say a man was nearly accidentally shot in a gunfire incident earlier this week stemming from a dispute over a parking spot near Pike and Minor.

CHS reported earlier on the Tuesday night shooting incident but Seattle Police has released new information about the shooting and the altercation.

According to SPD, police were sent to the area around 7:40 PM to a report of a woman screaming and crying for help. A single gunshot was reported as police arrived.SPD says the shooting stemmed from an argument over a parking space — and was nearly a much bigger deal.

“At some point during the argument, the suspect produced a firearm and pistol whipped the female victim, causing the male victim to physically confront the suspect,” SPD reports. “During the struggle, the firearm was discharged, penetrating the victim’s jacket, narrowly missing the victim.”

Police say the suspect dropped the firearm during the struggle and fled. The gun was recovered by officers at the scene along with the single shell casing.

SPD says the suspect was able to flee the area but not before the victims got a picture of the perpetrator to hand over to police.

Seattle Fire was called to treat the woman for an injury suffered in the assault.

UPDATE: Police were investigating reported gunfire near Miller Park and the Meany Middle School campus Thursday night. 911 callers reported multiple shots fire around 10:40 PM and possibly involved vehicles and people fleeing the area on foot. Arriving officers found no injuries in the area where the gunfire was reported near 21st and Republican. Officers were also unable to immediately locate any shell casings or evidence of a shooting
