Important customer: The mayor places his order at the new Central Cafe (Image: @MayorofSeattle)
Mayor Bruce Harrell, a Central District-raised leader himself, is welcoming the new location of E Cherry-born Central Cafe now open in the Seattle Municipal Tower.
“It’s great to once again see this corner of the building open and energized with City employees, good drinks, and a great local business,” Harrell said.
The tower has been home to a Starbucks.
The Central Cafe was started by owner Bridget Johnson in the Central District in 2020 and managed to survive the pandemic with its menu of good eats and delicious smoothies. βItβs more than one day, is this going to be your coffee shop? Are you going to be posting on Instagram when you like something from a local shop? What are you going to be doing to help small businesses?,β Johnson told CHS about Central Cafe and supporting local businesses in 2020. βItβs not just minority business β itβs all business.β
The original Central Cafe remains open at 2509 E Cherry. You can now join in with a few thousand of your favorite city employees in the Muni Tower at 700 5th Ave. Learn more at centralcafeseattle.com.

I love the Central Cafe. Their first cafe is at 25/Cherry. Great service, great drinks and food!
Great, love to see small business success.
Are there are lot of city workers in that tower now? Has the city brought their employees all back “to the office” after COVID a few years ago?
City brought it’s employees back about a year ago,
City employees have been required to work 2-3 days in the office for the past two years unless their job requires more.
A business that is worker-oriented and takes care of them. Unlike other coffee shops. I hate Mayor Harrell with a passion but I guess it’s good he can get them business with his fake-celeb status.
Fake celeb status. Okay man.
Besides the food being amazing, the customer service is the best I’ve had in years! Starts my day off in the best way possible!
