Seattle Police investigate E Union gunfire and bullet damage

Seattle Police found bullet damage across multiple blocks but there were no immediate reports of injuries after a reported shootout involving people on foot and in at least one vehicle Monday night near 21st and Union.

Multiple 911 callers reported around 20 gunshots just after 9 PM including callers reporting bullet damage to structures and vehicles on 18th Ave, 22nd Ave, and E Pike.

SPD recovered bullet fragments from where one window was shattered at a residence on 18th Ave and found at least one shell casing and an extended magazine from a firearm near the bus stop at 20th and Union, according to radio updates.

Police were looking for two people reported fleeing the area on foot and a vehicle last seen headed westbound on E Union.

There were no reported arrests.

What manner of “something” do you have in mind?

Actually prosecuting and incarcerating gun criminals when caught perhaps.

That’s KCPO’s jurisdiction. Maybe city leaders could end the crybaby defacto strike by the police department by firing them all en masse for failure to uphold their oath. At this point their paychecks amount to theft.

Then we would have no police, and no qualified candidate would ever want to work for the Seattle police department again (not that many do now). Great idea, you certainly think your ideas through…unless of course no police is your endgame, which in that case makes you delusional as to how human nature works.

The problem is the criminals are rarely identified. Hence no arrests or protection. The No Snitch culture at work.

We heard that last night and it sounded like way more than 20 shots. More like 50 and rapid fire. Similar to Chinese firecrackers.

It was easily 100 shots.

I’m surprised no pedestrians or cyclists were on the street at that hour or else this would be a more serious incident

It was waaay more than 20 shots. It was several long bursts from what sounded like a semi-automatic, if not an actual automatic weapon…

Sawant, you’ve still got a few weeks.. I await your proposal that the Seattle city council demand a cease fire…

A person on NextDoor reported that her sister who was visiting from out of town was driving down Union at the time and her car was hit. It is amazing that no one was hurt, intended victim or innocent bystander.

DEFINITELY way more than 20 shots. Easily 100. I find myself ducking in my own home, screaming to make sure my son is okay and no bullets went through his window. Sawant has been useless in protecting us from violence or making any strides in that regard. I really, really hope something changes in 2024.

Wow so you’re going to blame a council member and not the totally inept police department that is fully capable and resourced to investigate and arrest these people? It’s disgusting to politicize these shootings instead of calling out the police for the failures they are to our community. The more crime they allow to happen the more money they can extort from us. This is blackmail pure and simple.

For cities of similar size we have around 400-600 less police. Most of the investigators are responding to 911 calls to try to better response times. What do you expect? Then if they do arrest them they are usually released before the officer is done with his report because the KCPO is either too busy, not interested or thinks that it is unfair to prosecute people.

lol, don’t count on anything changing other than being able to blame everything on Sawant. The other 8 council members and Mayor just keep throwing money at our police despite them being completely ineffective & inept. More of the same isn’t going to change anything.

Well, the new Council (as of January) will be almost completely different, and I am hopeful that they will do a better job on issues such as gun violence. They can start by enacting legislation that will help to hire more police officers and get the force back to what it was a few years ago.

I encourage everyone to check their cameras and forward any suspicious activity to the cops. Together we can try to ID these miscreants. They had to walk past your door or window. Or park on your street.

Agree! However, the “no snitch” ethic is very much part of the problem. At least some of these criminals could be arrested if witnesses would step forward, but they often choose not to. It’s called “protecting your own.”

The definition of snitch includes: to take something of little value, to inform on a comrade, to take by stealth.
These miscreants have little value, are not my comrades and i can remain anonymous as can all citizens who give information about crime.
I think we can all agree that for a normal person, protecting our own extends to the community.
