It is dark and red — and there is a disco ball. The new sister bar to E Olive Way’s Rose Temple is open — on and off — at the base of the curving street.
In the end, they went with Donna’s.
It is a pretty much perfect name for the latest collaboration from Capitol Hill food and drink business partners Austin Polley and Benjamin Smith who turned to friends and trusted advisors as they tried to finalize on a name for the new hangout replacing the former Speckled and Drake and once home to E Olive Way nightspot The Living Room and, before that, Capitol Hill curiosity shop the Anne Bonny.
CHS reported here in May on the plans for the new bar as Polley described hopes for Italian-flavored lounge vibes, “spirits, Amaro, and spritzy cocktails,” and “bar pasta” featuring big platters of saucy noodles.
Opening hours have so far been sporadic as the new joint has been closed off and on while the ownership fine tunes the overhauled space and CHS hasn’t stopped in yet to find out which of the early dreams made it into the bar, and which were cut.
Your best best, for now, is to check @donnas.seattle for updates.
Donna’s is located at 1355 E Olive Way.
