The Neighbor Lady has a new home at 23rd and Union

“Oh shit, look who’s back,” reads a recent post on the @neighborladypublichouse social media feed. Yes, some of the neighborhood’s favorite bartenders are in the mix again as the Neighbor Lady Public House has reopened in its new home across the street as part of the mix of Black-owned and neighborhood businesses in the Midtown Square mixed-use development.

It has been three years since the alleged political feud, non-disparagement agreement, and lost lease that stirred the Neighbor Lady to seek out a new home. The new location might have a few of its infamous urinal cakes ready to deploy.

But the 23rd and Union the neighborhood watering hole is rejoining has changed with a growing mix of Black-owned and local businesses finding space in new development at the corner. Earlier this month, CHS reported on the latest to open with the new Jerk Shack Kitchen’s debut. Trey Lamont and The Jerk Shack Kitchen will also be joined by a leader in the city’s Black-owned restaurant scene later this year. In May, CHS reported that Donna Moodie has decided to move her much-loved restaurant Marjorie nine blocks from 14th and Union to join the mix in Midtown Square where it is expected to reopen by fall.

The Neighbor Lady, renewed and refreshed, now joins that mix. It will also provide an island of transition for fans of its cousin bar The Twilight Exit as the other Stephan Mollmann-owned joint faces upcoming redevelopment on its E Cherry block.

Mollmann told CHS earlier this year the E Cherry bar will likely shut down during the construction as the Twilight family continues on at its South Seattle location and in Midtown Square at The Neighbor Lady.

The Neighbor Lady is located at 1100 23rd Ave. Learn more at facebook.com/neighborladypublichouse.

Can’t wait to see the new place! Neighbor Lady has been missed.

(I know several people who continue to boycott Uncle Ike’s due to Ian Eisenberg’s treatment of the Neighbor Lady.)
