Now open in the Central District: Jerk Shack Kitchen in Midtown Square

Speaking of new opportunities for Black ownership in the Central District, Trey Lamont’s new 23rd and Union location of Jerk Shack is now open in the Midtown Square development.

The Carribean restaurant is one of the first of the development’s commercial tenants to open on its inner square.

CHS reported here on the mix of Black-owned and neighborhood businesses opening in the mixed-use development that also has added more than 400 market rate and affordable apartment units on the southeast corner of 23rd and Union including the new Jerk Shack, the Arté Noir arts space and gallery, Raised Doughnuts, and a new home for The Neighbor Lady.

The latter is hoped to make its Midtown Square debut this week.

Lamont and The Jerk Shack Kitchen will also be joined by a leader in the city’s Black-owned restaurant scene. In May, CHS reported that Donna Moodie has decided to move her much-loved restaurant Marjorie nine blocks from 14th and Union to join the mix in Midtown Square where it is expected to reopen by fall.

The Jerk Shack is now open at 2301 E Union. Learn more at jerkshackseattle.com.

I tried it yesterday, it was great. Can’t wait until Neighbor Lady opens, that courtyard will be awesome.
