Indian grocery store Spice SPC has reopened after its move from its original home just off Rainier Ave to just off E Madison.
“We are a social purpose Indian grocery store which I believe is the only SPC Indian store in the area,” Aditya Bajaj tells CHS. “SPC is recognized as a corporation to pursue profits and social good in WA state. We care about our customers, communities, and suppliers.”
And, for those of you wondering where the border falls, Bajaj considers the north of Madison location as Capitol Hill.
CHS reported in January on the plans for the grocery to move into the Avant Apartments building with a new 1,000-square-foot shop on the northwest corner of the development where 21st Ave fades into Denny where it now neighbors local handroll bar Uminori and a new E Madison outlet of the Papa Johns take and bake takeout pizza franchise.
The new grocery stands across E Madison from the neighborhood’s Safeway for your other supermarket needs.
Bajaj says the move from the Artspace Hiawatha Lofts allows Spice SPC to add a food menu including fresh samosas, Indian sweets, and curries to go.
It also will usher in a greater effort by the small company to address its social mission, Bajaj says.
“I know what we did in our about 1.5 years journey was not enough (barely anything),” Bajaj writes. “Most of the things we did were informal and once we open, we will invest more time in formalizing our social good efforts to be able to track and deliver on the social purpose under different pillars.”
Spice SPC is now open at 2108 E Denny. Learn more at spicespc.com.

Papa MURPHY’S is take and bake. Papa Johns is just take.
Shit! Thanks!
Papa John’s used to have a take-and-bake option, which I think they’ve since dropped. Anyway, this new store sounds great, though the website isn’t yet live.
Sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood!
