As it prepares for the 18th year of the TRANSlations: Seattle Trans Film Festival, Capitol Hill film nonprofit Three Dollar Bill Cinema has also made a change of address.

The organization has a new Capitol Hill home, moving its offices into the newly formed E Pine complex of Gay City.ย LGBTQ health and community facility Gay City moved into its new Capitol Hill spaceย last summer on E Pine and took on a new mission as โ€œSeattleโ€™s LGBTQ+ Center.โ€

Next week, Three Dollar will host the 18th TRANSlations to kick off Seattle’s month of peak film festival activity including the return of the SIFF: Seattle International Film Festival starting May 11th.

TRANSlations gets the festival ball rolling starting Thursday, May 4th with screenings and events both online and in-person. For Capitol Hill film lovers, the 2023 festival will be an excuse for a field trip out of the neighborhood.

In 2023, the trans film fest has moved fully off the Hill for its screenings with Ark Lodge Cinemas and The Beacon representing a shift south this year for the annual festival.

“Three Dollar Bill Cinema is beyond proud to present one of the few trans – focused film festivals in the world and that we have reached year 18 of this important and impactful event,” Billy Ray Brewton, managing director of Three Dollar Bill said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and especially the trans community, are again under attack this year, so we approach this festival with celebration and resolve to support, uplift, and fight for the rights of our trans and gender non-conforming siblings.”

2023 TRANSlations is billed as a hybrid festival with features, shorts, and events that “celebrate all things trans.” This year’s festival also includes Q&As with filmmakers and panel discussions with community members, artists, and industry professionals including Artless Media representative Russell Sheaffer, Isabel Sandoval, Max Disgrace, Catrileo + Carrion Community, and Daniel Sea.

This year’s theme is “TRANS THROUGH TIME” because, the organizers say, “trans folks have always been here and always will be.”
