The Lao Burger is taking on a life of its own on Capitol Hill as Taurus Ox spinoff Ox Burger debuts on E Madison.

“The Lao Burger from Taurus Ox got so popular we had to give it it’s own flagship restaurant,” Khampaeng “KP” Panyathong’s food and drink crew said in announcing the opening of the new burger joint in the space where Taurus Ox was born.

The new joint is built around the popular Lao Burger and its smash-patties, provolone cheese, and jaew tomato with cured pork belly, jaew bong mayo, pickled red onions and more Laotian flavors to round out the piled flavors but also features chicken sandwiches, loaded fries, agave-sambal green beans, and soft serve treats.

Ox Burger’s debut follows the hugely successful transplant of the original Taurus Ox from E Madison to 19th Ave E after another Panyathong collaboration struggled in the former Vios space. Panyathong and partners, meanwhile, moved the Money Frog idea to 15th and Pine where it was then transformed into a reincarnation of the much loved Bellevue Ave favorite Kedai Makan.

If all of that was hard to follow, don’t worry about it. You’ll find Taurus Ox open and extremely busy on 19th Ave E, Kedai Makan back in motion at 15th and Pine, and, now, Ox Burger serving up its sandwiches along E Madison just over from Kedai Makan.

There is also another Panyathong creation in the works but that project may have hit a bump. The prolific restaurateur has had the former Primo Pizza Parlour on First Hill’s 8th Ave lined up to be home to his Shallow Pan Pizza for some time now but it’s not clear when that project might open. Recent filings with the city indicate the real estate company that owns the building might be looking to sell or redevelop the property, putting a potential pause in plans for Panyathong’s pizza.
