Lark is rebooting its 12th Ave pizza joint — as Cora, a 12th Ave pizza joint

The Lark food and drink family is staying in the pizza business with a reboot in the restaurant’s original 12th Ave space.

Cora Pizza and Plates is set to debut this week in the original home of Lark where John Sundstrom, Kelly Ronan, and JM Enos opened the boxing themed Southpaw wood-fired pizza joint in late 2016. Southpaw was praised for its pizza but led a rather quiet existence in the space until Lark closed it down last year with ownership looking for a new concept for the address.

It turns out, apparently, that a new take on pizza made the most sense.

Cora is lined up to debut Tuesday after an overhaul to give the space a new look for the “casual pizza and small plates restaurant” project.

UPDATE: Here’s how the Lark folks describe the new spin:

We’ve warmed up the room (maybe just a hint of original Lark days vibe): think candles on the tables, thoughtful casual service, yummy mostly Italian wine list, and delicious wood fired vegetables and pizzas, pastas. It’s a great spot for sharing a quiet dinner, celebrating with friends, or dinner alone (we call that self care).

Lark, meanwhile, has grown into the new home the restaurant moved into at 10th and Seneca in 2014 and is nearing its 20th anniversary this year. CHS reported here on the 10-year milestone for the restaurant in 2013 including the decision to sell off the neighboring Lark offshoot Licorous to make way for now legendary Canon cocktail bar.

Cora Pizza and Plates is located at 926 12th Ave. Learn more at coraseattle.com.

Any relation to the old Piecora that used to be on Madison or just synchronicity?
