2023 will bring a new construction project to Capitol Hill’s Cal Anderson Park.
In a $250,000 project bundled with an overhaul of two other parks play areas at the West Arboretum Tot Lot and at Soundview Terrace, contractor LW Sundstrom will work to improve a key daylight feature of Cal Anderson — its playground.
The Cal Anderson project will “replace the aging play equipment and repair/replace the play area surfacing” with new play equipment that “will meet current national safety standards and assure accessibility to children of all abilities, ages 2-5 and 5-12.”
Access to the play area will also be improved to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The play area will be closed during the work which is expected to begin by June. You can keep track of updates here.
The work on the play area comes as officials and community groups are also looking at how to best to continue work to improve nighttime public safety in the busy park.
