A man stole a car at gunpoint Tuesday morning while the vehicle was stopped at a red light near 12th and Madison Tuesday morning, police say.

SPD is searching for the suspect who reportedly rushed up to the Kia K5 and pointed a handgun at the driver and demanded the vehicle around 9:45 AM Tuesday in the area around the construction underway to create the new Madison RapidRide bus route.

Police report that there were no injuries in the incident.

SPD says it is continuing to search for the suspect described as “a very heavy set white male, in his mid-late 20’s, wearing black sweats over a grey shirt” with his hair was pulled back into a ponytail.
