2022 is the year prices for Uber and Lyft in Seattle settled in at levels that make the services a luxury. Fortunately, celebrations of the last night of the year will include free rides around Seattle thanks to Sound Transit and King County Metro.
Link light rail and Sound Transit Express buses will be fare-free from 4 AM Saturday to 2 AM Sunday and Sound Transit will operate extended Link light rail service on New Year’s Eve, with 15-minute late night service. ST says the last southbound trip will leave Northgate Station at 1:58 AM. The last northbound train will leave Angle Lake at 1:41 AM. Due to operator shortages, there will be no extended service on ST Express buses this New Year’s Eve.
Metro, meanwhile, will operate on regular Saturday schedule and be fare-free from 3 AM Saturday through 3 AM on Sunday, January 1st.
The Seattle Streetcar will also be free.

Thank you Seattle City Council for passing the regulations that helped make Uber unaffordable, reducing demand, and ultimately pushing many drivers out of a job.
Uber was always just a taxi cab company attempting to dodge all of the taxi company regulations… like actually having drivers that are properly trained, licensed and insured for commercial driving (not to mention compensated as taxi drivers). All the city has done is start forcing them to put some of that stuff back into place and gee… now an Uber is the price of a taxi… Amazing, not.
