With lasagne by the square, panini, and an Italian happy hour, La Spiga’s little sister La Dispensa now open in Chophouse Row

Lasagne to stay — or go — at La Dispensa

Part deli, part meals to go counter, part Italian cafe, and all through the Instagram-worthy filter of Chophouse Row, La Dispensa is adding new life to the weekday Pike/Pine lunch and happy hour scenes.

The new offshoot of 12th Ave’s Osteria La Spiga has opened for business in the internal counter space of the Chophouse development with “delicious house-made lunches, satisfying take-home meals, a lively Italian happy hour, cooking demos and more.”

CHS reported earlier this year on the project from La Spiga executive chef Sabrina Tinsley and the rare new venture from La Spiga, one of the few Black-owned restaurants and bars on Capitol Hill, that has been part of the neighborhood for nearly 25 years, moving to 12th Ave from Broadway in 2006.

“Take a bit of Italy home with you,” La Dispensa, or “The Pantry,” invites with an efficient menu of panini, plus small plates and salads, pastas and lasagne, and even desserts to enjoy at home or in the Chophouse space. La Dispensa also has La Spiga’s house-made breads on offer if you need a rustic sourdough loaf or Spianata olive oil bread with rosemary.

If you want to hang around in the evening, wind down the workday with La Dispensa’s “Italian Happy Hour” and stuzzicchini and aperitivi menus along with wine and beer.

Most everything but the happy hour is designed to be portable. You’ll need to pay a 50-cent deposit on the panna cotta jar.

La Dispensa’s opening is part of an end of the year burst of new food and drink activity around Chophouse Row. The Gemini Room bar from the Queer/Bar-Oddfellows-Elliott Bay Book Company family of neighborhood businesses is also set to open next month in the former Cafe Pettirosso space.

Meanwhile, retailer Butter Home is moving into the Row with the homewares, hand printed paper goods, independently made jewelry, and gifts that made it a popular part of the Melrose Market.

Chophouse Row also lots of holiday events planned for the coming weeks including the Chophouse Row Guilty Pleasures Holliday Party on Thursday, December 8th and the Cloud Room Holiday Sing-along on Thursday, December 15th.

You’ll find La Dispensa Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM on the first floor central lobby of of Chophouse Row at 1424 11th Ave. Learn more at ladispensaseattle.com.
