A doughnut in one hand, a glass of sparkling wine in the other — Capitol Hill-born General Porpoise is adding a liquor license with plans to sell beer and wine.
The Sea Creatures family of businesses behind the E Union filled-doughnut shop and its sister locations across Seattle appear to have a more sophisticated version of a Homer Simpson fantasy in mind.
“Doughnuts and sparkling wine, or even doughnuts and mimosas, is for sure a thing,” a representative replied to CHS’s inquiry about the possibility of making a breakfast of doughnuts and beer.
Apparently, General Porpoise was originally licensed so it could include champagne with its sweet offerings when it debuted on Capitol Hill in 2015 but the state yanked the permit — “too small a menu,” the rep said.
But rules have changed and so has General Porpoise. In addition to the plans to add alcohol, the shops are adding quiche and sandwiches.
You can find General Porpoise Capitol Hill at 1020 E Union. Learn more at gpdoughnuts.com.
