Police say one person was shot in the leg in an exchange of gunfire Thursday afternoon near 27th and Spring.
911 callers reported the 27th Ave gunfire around 3:30 PM followed by reports of a person with a gunshot wound in a crash along E Madison. Witness reports said people from the collision and the reported victim were seen fleeing in a vehicle from the crash scene, according to East Precinct radio updates.
UPDATE: Quite an update from SPD who reports the victim later attempted to escape the hospital “in the nude to avoid being arrested for a felony warrant.”
The SPD report also includes details of how the shooting is believed to have played out:
At about 3:30 p.m., 911 callers reported hearing shots fired near 27th Avenue and East Spring Street. Police responded to the scene and found evidence of a collision and approximately 20 shell casings. Witnesses reported multiple cars fleeing the area, including a red BMW. Minutes later, police were called to 17th Avenue and East Madison Street for a two-car collision involving the red BMW. The driver of the BMW exited his car and told a witness he had been shot. The other driver in the collision was not seriously injured and remained on scene to speak with police. Momentarily, another car arrived at the collision scene and picked up the BMW driver. The BMW driver was then dropped off at a hospital on First Hill with an apparently non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
Police say the victim was taken to Swedish Hospital on First Hill in a private car with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Additional police resources were requested from the West Precinct to help process the multiple investigation sites.
There were no immediate reports of arrests.
