- North Capitol Hill manhunt update: Prosecutors said they were asking the Seattle Police Department for more information about the alleged shots fired at officers incident that led to an overnight Sunday manhunt around North Capitol Hill. The King County Prosecutor’s office said it was working with SPD to get “clarifying information” before filing more serious charges against the 58-year-old police allege opened fire on officers attempting to pull him over after a night of prowler reports in the area. Jail records show the man has an extensive criminal history and remains held on two counts of second degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. The jail record also shows a line item for “homicide investigation.” Police said the suspect was to be booked into King County Jail on two counts of attempted homicide and one count of attempted burglary at the time of his arrest. UPDATE 10:15 AM: Prosecutors will not file attempted murder charges in the case. The county prosecutor announced it has filed two counts of second degree assault and a firearms charge against Damon Baker:
The State is concerned the defendant may commit a violent offense if he remains out of custody. The defendant was suspect in a number of residential burglaries. When officers spotted the possible involved vehicle, they followed but did not activate sirens and emergency lights. The defendant then fired a handgun out of the window of the car, back at the officers. The officer driving the car had to take evasive action because he feared the car would be struck. The defendant reacted with extreme violence simply because he was being followed by a police car. He fired a gun out of the window of a moving car back at another car behind him. He did this just after 10pm, and while the road may not be as crowded as at mid-day, it was within Seattle when others could still be on the road. This was extremely dangerous, not just for the involved officers, but for others out in the area. The defendant is not allowed to possess a gun. The State is concerned he will commit another violent offense if he is out of custody, perhaps just out of desperation to get away from responding officers. The State requests bail be set in the amount of $500,000.
- SUV assault charges: A familiar face in Capitol Hill’s food and drink scene has been charged with two counts of second degree assault after police say he drove his SUV onto a sidewalk and allegedly tried to run over two people near Capitol Hill’s City Market in a beef sparked by a confrontation with a street performer. “After initially refusing to exit his residence, Myett was taken into custody,” the SPD report reads, adding that Myett admitted to police that he had been drinking at a bar prior to the incident and that he was involved in an altercation. According to police, the victims in the alleged assault had been playing music in front of City Market just before 2 AM when Myett approached acting drunk and aggressive. “An unknown black male intervened and told Myett to leave (one of the victims) alone,” the police report reads. “Myett argued with the unknown male and called him a ‘nigger.’ The unknown male hit or pushed Myett to the ground and yelled at him before walking away.” Police say Myett then returned to the scene at the wheel of his SUV:Myett left the scene but police found the Land Rover left nearby with what appeared to be cup of beer in the center console. He was booked into King County Jail after his arrest and released on $150,000 bail. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for next week. Myett is a veteran of the Capitol Hill food and drink scene with involvement in several ventures including Juicebox and the Marseille wine bar.

- Sunday gunfire: A victim at an unnamed Capitol Hill club told police a phone thief fired a gun in a confrontation over the theft early Sunday just before 2 AM:
The female suspect, who was in a vehicle at the time, taunted the victim with the phone, and then pulled out a gun, firing a round into the air. The vehicle then fled but was located by patrol officers a short time later. Officers initiated a pursuit, and the suspect vehicle fled eastbound on I-90. Officers lost sight of the vehicle but were advised by WSP that the vehicle had been observed on DOT cameras exiting at Mercer Island. SPD, WSP, and Mercer Island PD responded to the area, but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle. - ‘Help the firefighter’: A combative patient in a Saturday medical response on E Madison prompted a flood of police and Seattle Fire vehicles to respond to an emergency “help the firefighter” call:
On 05-28-2022 at 1559 hours, Seattle Fire responded to a medical incident at an apartment complex and encountered a combative patient. The subject bit a firefighter in the hand which prompted a “help the firefighter” call. SPD patrol officers responded to the scene and assisted SFD restraining the subject.
