The $50,000 Capitol Hill parking spot is now down to $38,000 but you still might better spend your money on eternal Capitol Hill residency — for you and your closest friend.
Of all the things to find on Craigslist, a new listing is advertising a double plot in the coveted “Blue Zone” of Capitol Hill’s Lake View Cemetery on the market for $28,000.
Other plots are available in the densely populated cemetery eternally home to more than 40,000 souls but finding a pair in the most popular area of the graveyard and so conveniently located is unusual. It is also being offered at a steep discount — similar sites list above $35,000, the poster claims.
The sales pitch includes this heartbreakingly beautiful closer.
“The beauty of the spot, on hot summer days, you can hear children playing/laughing in the Volunteer Park wading pool.”
Dan Casey, the longtime neighborhood resident behind the sale and author of the lovely thought, tells CHS the unusual Craigslist listing came about after he decided years ago to purchase spots surrounding his mother’s grave. He is holding on to a space of his own but says he hopes to make the extra plots available to other Capitol Hillers.
Casey is 64 but stays busy with his home energy start-up Genii Systems and tells CHS you never know what you are going to remember about life. For him, one of the most loving memories is of his mother’s embrace as she held him after a day of play and splashing in the wading pool.
If you want to one day be close to those happy sounds yourself, consider making Casey an offer.
