There was a time when Capitol Hill golfers were forced to roam the streets as their fairways, play the Bobby Morris turf as their greens. Friday, a new era begins for Pike/Pine putters.
The new Five Iron Golf is now open on 11th Ave on the ground floor of the five-story WeWork office development built on the bones of the old building once home to the Capitol Hill Value Village thrift shop.
The 12,000-square-foot virtual golf bar boasts a dozen “custom-built” TrackMan Golf simulators “featuring multiple high-speed cameras to capture every angle of the golf swing,” and a restaurant and bar that promises “TVs at every turn.”
Five Iron Golf’s rapid growth began from its first venue in Manhattan seven years ago and has grown with a mix of golf simulators, instruction, food, and drink to locations including multiple New York venues, plus expansions to Baltimore, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and, of course, Vegas. The Seattle opening marks the company’s first drive onto the West Coast.
CHS reported on the Fire Iron-WeWork link up last summer as plans came together for the new Capitol Hill entertainment venue. WeWork opened its Capitol Hill coworking and office space facility in late 2019 with a plan for multiple floors of offices for independent workers and with deals in place for big clients like Microsoft to eat up entire floors of the building. The site was previously Capitol Hill’s Value Village and, way back, an early launch point for REI.
Capitol Hill and Pike/Pine continue to be a target for national retail and entertainment concepts looking to be part of the area’s arts venues, clubs, bars, restaurants, and nightlife. Global beauty player Glossier joined the mix in August.
A more local player has also tapped into the Pike/Pine golf connection. In September, Ben Haggerty — Capitol Hill’s resident hip hop star Macklemore — debuted a flagship retail shop for his Bogey Boys golf fashion line on 10th Ave.
A block away on 11th, the new Five Iron Seattle keeps Masters-worthy hours with the facility available daily from 6 AM to 11 PM on weekdays, and weekends starting at 8 AM. Simulator rentals run from $50 to $62.50 per hour per person during “peak hours” of 4 PM or later. Five Iron provides “complimentary top-of-the-line equipment” and can also offer “custom club fitting at The Fitting Lab.” You can also book lessons or purchase a membership for savings on regular visits. Five Iron also hosts virtual golf leagues.
And, like most Capitol Hill bars, you can hang out at Fire Iron for a drink and a bite and hope somebody is looking to add you to their threesome, foursome, or fivesome.
Five Iron Golf is located at 1525 11th Ave. You can learn more at fiveirongolf.com/seattle.

Looking forward to some indoors entertainment for Seattle. Great when it’s raining out and you want to golf.
Capitol Hill is looking less and less like a community of queers and artists, and more like a playground for the rich. Shouldn’t this kind of thing be in South Lake Union? Can Seattle keep some space for people who don’t make 6 figures? Bring back Value Village!
Looks dope.
I’ve been to the one in Philly. Nice people, great fun.
