The cases — from across the nation to right here on Capitol Hill — have exploded:
Hospitalizations are starting to rise:
More deaths will follow:
Venues on Capitol Hill are starting to pull the plug on plans for New Year’s Eve parties. For some, it just doesn’t feel right to ring in 2022 in a crowd.
“With much sadness, we have decided to cancel our NYE Party in addition to postponing our 37th Anniversary Party on Dec 30th and 31st,” E Pike’s Wildrose announced. “The safety of our staff and community is our primary concern.”
The ‘Rose promises it will reopen in January.
One of the longest running lesbian bars in the country is being joined in its decision by a newer addition to Capitol Hill’s entertainment scene.
Broadway’s Olmstead is also canceling its planned New Year’s bash with The Dirty Darlings Burlesque. “We want to do our part to keep our staff, the performers & community safe,” Olmstead’s management writes.
Other parties at larger Capitol Hill venues are still — for now — moving forward including a celebration planned at Neumos and a NYE bash with Bosco from RuPaul’s Drag Race at Queer/Bar. Both of those events, of course, will require masking and proof of vaccination or a recent negative test.
Joining the NYE party list is E Olive Way gay nightlife veteran CC Attle’s. The bar, which earned praise in May as queer venues lead the wave in requiring proof of vaccination weeks before orders from health officials, is planning to also be open for patrons to ring in 2022.

One death per day is a very low base to start from, even with rising cases. Especially because Omicron has been shown to be far less severe, especially in a highly vaccinated population like Seattle.
On a related not, CHS, I didn’t see the annual “what’s open on Christmas” post this year. Was that an attempt to discourage people from visiting restaurants and potentially being exposed?
Not true. More than one death a day in our state–17 deaths on the 29th alone. Thanks for trying to diminish the public health emergency caused by Covid-19 since March of 2020. People travel between counties all the time. Even from those with low vaccination rates and anti-mask convictions. Nice try.
