Many of the already vaccinated in Seattle spent the weekend feeling a little off and maybe a little achy — with the CDC’s recommendation, COVID-19 booster shots are now widely available in the city.
Friday, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention endorsed the COVID-19 vaccine boosters for all adults. The CDC is now recommending boosters for Pfizer/BioNTech’s and Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccines for all adults six months after they finish their first two doses.
Previously, the CDC recommended boosters after two months for the 15 million people who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
While appointments were snapped at quickly at health providers and commercial pharmacies, the city’s clinics were also offering appointments and some clinics were accepting walk-up patients at less busy times. All adults who have already been vaccinated are eligible once the 6-month milestone is reached.
The county says 90% of residents 12 and older have now received at least one dose with 84% having received two. Adding kids 5 to 12 drops the two-dose total to 77%.

Seattle’s latest COVID-19 trends
While transmission rates remain at “substantial” levels in King County and Seattle, health officials say the outcomes for those who are vaccinated are much, much better should you catch the virus. According to Public Health, people in King County who are not vaccinated are an estimated 36 times more likely to be hospitalized and 18 times more likely to die from a COVID-19 related illness.
