Things got wild and woolly on Capitol Hill’s main drag Tuesday night with an incident involving an uncooperative victim being shot at and missed in one incident while police wrestled with a simultaneous but unrelated nearby incident dealing with the unruly and unhelmeted suspect in an unusual All Terrain Vehicle traffic stop on Broadway.
According to the SPD reports on the incidents, police were called to Broadway and Thomas around 8:30 PM after a report of someone shooting at another person behind the Chase bank. Police located the uninjured victim and found a .22 caliber shell casing at the scene but no damage.
SPD says “the investigation stalled when the victim was uncooperative and did not want to be part of the investigation, did not want to conduct a show up on the potential suspect, and did not want to assist with any potential prosecution.” Police collected evidence and released the possible suspect. No gun was reported recovered.
Meanwhile, south on Broadway near Pike and Pine, police made an unusual traffic stop in the 1500 block where the rider of an ATV was reported cruising the strip without a helmet. During the traffic stop, SPD says the suspect assaulted an officer and was taken into custody. Police called a tow truck to the area to tow away the ATV. According to atvman.com, it is possible to legally operate an ATV on public streets in Washington with the proper registration. There were no reported serious injuries.
