According to East Precinct radio dispatches, the victim did not immediately realized he had been stabbed, calling police around 1:10 PM to report an assault about 10 to 15 minutes prior. The victim then called police back to report he thought he had been stabbed in the back. Arriving officers confirmed the injury.
The police dog K9 unit was searching the area near where the assault occurred looking for a suspect described only as a white male in his 30s with dark hair, around 6’1″ and heavyset, and wearing a blue or grey shirt with white-striped black pants at the time of the incident and last seen on foot leaving the area on E Pine.
UPDATE: Here is a brief on the strange incident from Seattle Police:
A Central District man sustained minor injuries Friday when he was stabbed while doing yard work outside his home. Shortly after 1 pm, the man called police and said he’d been attacked outside his home in the 1500 block of 29th Avenue. Officers arrived and contacted the man, who said he had been raking leaves in his yard when an unknown man approached him and stabbed him in the back. The victim used a rake to fend off the suspect, and then went inside his home and called 911. The suspect fled the scene. Police searched the area with a K9 unit but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center. His injuries were minor and are not considered life-threatening.
I live on this block – did the stabbing occur there or was that where the suspect was last seen?
Looks like the stabbing occurred in his yard on the 1500 block of 29th – wow, scary. Be safe.
Thanks Oliveoly. Read about these things happening occasionally but like all everything else, it’s put in a different perspective when it happens to someone you know.
But we don’t have a public safety problem in Seattle…
Kinda messed up that “Knife sharpening @ Melrose Market” appears directly next to this story in my browser.
Our neighbor is being interviewed right now discussing what happened to him… will comment a link to the video if I come across it.
