The old Summit Block Party is all growed up. Now branded as the Mercer X Summit Block Party, the 2018 edition that took place Saturday in the streets in the middle of one of the most densely populated centers of Capitol Hill featured bigger acts, deeper pocketed sponsors (thanks KEXP), and, still, no admission.

The grassroots of the festival ended in 2015 with a special Slummit Block Party, LLC edition of the annual free festival following the sale of the area’s spiritual center — the Summit Inn — to a developer.
The old CHS joke was that the Summit Block Party is free except for those who attended the Capitol Hill Block Party — those folks got two festivals for $61.11 back in 2014, for example. This year, we’ve updated the joke. You’re now getting a two-festival pass across Mercer X Summit and the 2019 CHBP. Still funny, right?

I have lived on Belmont and Olive St. for 4 years, I didn’t even know this was happening. I remember the Summit Block party being a lot bigger and so many people attended.
