Police make drug arrest after reported University/Union armed robbery

Drivers of a black Camaro probably should have cleared out of the area around Capitol Hill Block Party early Saturday morning but their decision to hang around the scene of their alleged crime helped police make an arrest in a weekend armed robbery.

Police were called to the area around 1200 University around 12:30 AM Saturday to a reported of gunpoint robbery and assault. The victim in the incident told police his assailants left the scene in an older, black Camaro last seen leaving westbound on University. Seattle Fire was called to the scene to treat the man for minor injuries as police began their search for the vehicle and a passenger reportedly carrying a Glock-style handgun.

About 45 minutes later, an officer on foot patrol near the Block Party grounds reported seeing a car matching the suspect vehicle’s description on Broadway cruising the area around the music festival.

Police in a car nearby began to follow the Camaro as another unit positioned itself to block the vehicle on Harvard. According to East Precinct radio dispatches, a traffic stop was made and the vehicle was cleared. Police took one person from the car into custody for investigation of armed robbery and possession of cocaine.
