Capitol Hill Block Party marks 20 years as a music festival starting next week on Friday, July 22nd but the neighborhood’s love for music is already leaking out and some wacky things are happening… like Rancho Bravo as a performance venue.
The 2016 edition of CHBP will include an expanded footprint and some free fun outside the fences. This year’s Block Party is set to feature free nightly shows at Unicorn, daytime performances and Sunday morning yoga at Chophouse Row, and a poster show at the V2 space as part of Thursday’s Capitol Hill Art Walk:
In conjunction with Capitol Hill Art Walk, Capitol Hill Arts District & The Vera Project, Block Party is pleased to present the Second Annual Capitol Hill Block Party Poster Show! Join us for the opening reception on July 14th during Capitol Hill Art Walk from 7PM till 11PM. Featuring a neighborhood raffle, signature cocktails and other libations, special musical programming and of course a series of posters by local artists showcasing their take on artists performing at the 2016 Festival! This event is free and all ages. The posters will be on view in the V2 Gallery Space (1525 11th Ave) through the end of Capitol Hill Block Party July 22 – 24.
CHBP producers say the logistics around this year’s three-day festival inside the fences will be similar to recent setups. Block Party will shut down Pike from Broadway to 12th, 10th from Union to Pine, and 11th from Union to Pine. Organizers say fences will begin to go up at 2 AM on Friday, July 22, and breakdown begins Sunday, July 24 at 11 PM. As part of the cleanup, garbage from the festival will be removed and the streets will be powerwashed.
Parking is anticipated to be particularly tight this year because of the level of construction in the area, so party-goers are encouraged to walk, bike, bus, or carpool wherever possible. Block party organizers are offering discounted Lyft rates.
As in past years, residents and employees whose homes or workplaces fall within the gates of the festival will receive three-day passes. Any questions about the Capitol Hill Block Party can be directed to [email protected].
Meanwhile, Thursday’s poster show opening is not the only musical seepage going on around the Party’s E Pike footprint. Friday, Rancho Bravo’s E Pine patio is apparently going to host its first — and maybe last — rock show:
Friday 7/15 – Way & Co. presents Sloucher’s FREE album release party on Rancho Bravo’s patio on Capitol Hill! Bod & surprise special guests open. This will be the first and possibly last show at Rancho Bravo ever. Sloucher features members of Makeup Monsters/Hibou, The Globes, & Bod/Telekinesis.
Sounds legit.
