Theatrical smoke is pretty much required for any show trying to emulate “the energy of an ’80s rock concert.” However, the final performance of Buttcracker at the Erickson Theatre Off Broadway Sunday night apparently rocked a little too hard.
Seattle Fire responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Egyptian Sunday night after theatrical smoke wafted into the movie theater from the adult-themed holiday show next door on Harvard Ave. Crews were dispatched to the Egyptian at 7:17 PM Sunday.
Capitol Hill photographer Tim Durkan captured the response and spoke with Buttcracker patrons who said the show was, indeed, very smoke-filled. No injuries were reported from the incident.
The Buttcracker is a holiday spin on the popular Capitol Hill-born Buttrock Suites which sets 80s hair metal to modern dance routines.
Thanks to Tim for the picture and the “breaking news” report — maybe Santa will bring you a new lens or three this year.
Admit it, this is one of your top 10 favorite headlines, right?
Finally, Pacific NW Ballet produces something culturally relevant. Everyone write them a thank you note for bringing butt crack to the people.
What I’m curious about is why there was a smoke detector system in this theater. The Seattle Fire Code does not require smoke detectors in existing theaters, if I’m reading it correctly. http://www.seattle.gov/dpd/cs/groups/pan/@pan/documents/web_informational/s047919.pdf
