On what is predicted to be a blustery weekend, we suggest you take refuge in art starting Thursday night. It’s time for the monthly Capitol Hill Art Walk. As usual, you can find a map and roster of this month’s shows at capitolhillartwalk.com.
Among the highlights is a special visit to the neighborhood as the Center on Contemporary Art takes over E Pike’s The Summit building for the manic 23 Enigma: 24-Hour Art Marathon:
From 6-9pm, on Thursday November 12 the culmination of Center on Contemporary Art’s (CoCA) 23rd annual 24-Hour Art Marathon “23 Enigma” will be a part of Capitol Hill Art Walk. Join the ongoing cacophony at the Art Party—meet the artists, get a peek at the newly created works of art, have your portrait taken by guest photographer Daniel Carrillo in his portable tintype studio, witness the launch of the new CoCA Membership Directory, enjoy a tasty beer from Elysian Brewing and the beats of DJ Eric Krause. Admission is by donation.
The art started getting arted Wednesday night –COCA said visitors were welcome to visit throughout the marathon to watch as the works come together before being sold Friday night at the center’s annual auction fundraiser.
Meanwhile at Vermillion, ‘Mo-Wave 2015 gets off to an artful start with a showing of ‘Mo-Wave-worthy works and a performance by Mal DeFleur:
‘Mo-Wave! Art Exhibition 2015, curated by Davora Lindner & Steven Miller. This exhibition aspires to evoke rhapsody through a tower of text pieces by local and international artists, alongside the most constructive forms of human bedrock; nude bodies, primary painting and encampments. It’s a call to action through poetry and prose.
The annual celebration of queer music and art — CHS was there in 2013 for the first edition — takes over Vermillion, Pony, and Chop Suey through the weekend:
‘Mo-Wave! Is a showcase of raw queer talent. A live and loud acknowledgment that our people do not fit into the simple stereotypes projected onto us by mainstream culture. ‘Mo- Wave! is an experience that celebrates Queer Distinction & Talent. We curate artists & musicians who leave an indelible mark on their world by wielding their uniqueness as both a beacon and a shield.
2015 artists include Le1f, Destiny, Seth Bogart, and Dai Burger.
