More than 8,000 customers were without power around the St. Mark’s Greenbelt, North Broadway, and Volunteer Park after a tree reportedly fell across wires Tuesday afternoon near Lakeview Blvd E and Belmont Ave E.
Seattle City Light said it was investigating the outage just after 4 PM. You can check the latest system status here.
Power was reported out at businesses along Broadway and up and down 15th and 19th Avenues E as well as Eastlake and another swath along 23rd Ave.
The outage adds to traffic concerns in the city during Chinese President Xi’s three-day visit to Seattle. Remember to treat darkened intersections as four-way stops.
UPDATE 4:45 PM: Reports of power coming back on coming in for many. “Crews isolating the damage where a tree fell into power lines. About half of affected customers restored,” Seattle City Light reports. Official estimated restoration is listed as 7:30 PM.
UPDATEx2: Crews worked late. Thanks City Light workers!
Crews have removed the tree from the power lines and restored power to the remaining 1,080 customers.

Any idea if Stevens has power? Supposed to go to a meeting there tonight.

Power just came back on at 10th and Highland!

Seems the 7:30 estimate was optimistic .. north end of Belmont Ave E is still dark :-/

Hmm… we live in the red area but didn’t lose power. We got lucky I guess.
