Tree reportedly knocks out power to 8,000 in North Capitol Hill

Screen Shot 2015-09-22 at 4.02.57 PMMore than 8,000 customers were without power around the St. Mark’s Greenbelt, North Broadway, and Volunteer Park after a tree reportedly fell across wires Tuesday afternoon near Lakeview Blvd E and Belmont Ave E.

Seattle City Light said it was investigating the outage just after 4 PM. You can check the latest system status here.

Power was reported out at businesses along Broadway and up and down 15th and 19th Avenues E as well as Eastlake and another swath along 23rd Ave.

The outage adds to traffic concerns in the city during Chinese President Xi’s three-day visit to Seattle. Remember to treat darkened intersections as four-way stops.

UPDATE 4:45 PM: Reports of power coming back on coming in for many. “Crews isolating the damage where a tree fell into power lines. About half of affected customers restored,” Seattle City Light reports. Official estimated restoration is listed as 7:30 PM.

UPDATEx2: Crews worked late. Thanks City Light workers!

Hmm… we live in the red area but didn’t lose power. We got lucky I guess.
