  • Man falls from Pine overpass: A man reportedly fell more than 50 feet from the Pine street overpass Friday morning, suffering life threatening injuries. There was no immediate information regarding how the man fell and whether he had jumped. Medics arrived to find the victim still alive in the I-5 express lane offramp and he was reportedly transported from the scene for emergency treatment at Harborview. It’s the second incident involving a fall onto I-5 in the area in recent weeks. On August 30th, a man reportedly fell about 15 feet onto the expressway near the Cherry exit. In the past, CHS has covered repeated suicide attempts from the Pike and Pine overpasses but sometimes falls have involved homeless people attempting to access camps in off-limits areas along I-5. Meanwhile, police prevented man from jumping from the overpass over I-5 and 520 Sunday morning, August 31st around 11 AM. UPDATE 9/12/14: The Stranger reports that the man who fell died the next day. The Stranger also reports that the Murray administration has apparently stepped up homeless camp “sweeps” — “That analysis completed yesterday and shared with The Stranger found 308 encampment sweeps so far this year, which is almost the same as the 312 sweeps last year total—putting Murray on track to do far more sweeps of homeless encampments this year than any mayor before him.” Earlier this year, CHS reported on the increasing amount of trespassing enforcement around Capitol Hill.
  • UPDATE: St. John’s disturbance: SPD and medics were called to E Pike’s St. John’s after a report of underwear-clad man busting glass at the bar. Police were called as customers were reportedly holding down the upset man who was injured during the incident. Seattle Fire was called to the scene to provide treatment.
  • 26th/John fire: Seattle Fire battled a fire in a 26th/John duplex Wednesday afternoon. The blaze started by food on the stove caused an estimated $45,000 in damage. There were no injuries.

  • Miller Park alley snooper: A Miller Park area reader provides this reminder to protect your identity:
This morning at 3:30 a.m. my husband and I awoke to the sound of someone rifling through the garbage in our alleyway. Generally, not a big deal.

However, upon closer inspection we realized she was actually sorting through the shared recycle bin (we live in a townhouse with a few other units) and separating out credit card offers, old phone bills, anything with personal information on it. My husband yelled out the window for her to move along and leave behind the mail, which she did, and that was that.

While leaving for work this morning, I went through the alley to dispose of the mail she had left behind and I noticed that she had hit nearly all of the bins in our alley – papers and what not strewn everywhere!

  • 10th/Thomas car recovery: See a massive police response near 10th and Thomas early on the morning of Friday, August 29th. SPD tells us officers were responding to the recovery of a stolen vehicle with a possible weapon involved. There were no reported arrests or injuries.

  • Slow-speed car vs. ped: A Saturday, August 30th slow-speed morning car vs. pedestrian incident near Bellevue and Summit left its victim with an injured ankle. The 11:23 AM  collision reportedly involved a car traveling about 4 MPH striking a woman as she was in the street getting into her car.
  • Big rig stuck: This truck was stuck for hours Tuesday night on the notorious Boylston slope:
