  • E Denny/Harvard street robbery: Police took two into custody following a reported street robbery near E Denny Way and Harvard Thursday morning around 7:30. According to East Precinct radio dispatches, a man reported he had been robbed by a male and female suspect. The suspects were seen fleeing the area southbound on Broadway in a red sedan. Police found the vehicle and initiated a stop near Broadway and Madison where two people fled on foot. They were chased down a short distance away near Boylston and Spring where a positive identification was made. We have no details on what was taken in the mugging or if anybody was injured. A lane of Broadway near Madison was shut to traffic during the response. UPDATE 1:15 PM: As we’ve noted before on CHS, sometimes the news talks back. Here’s a message we received from a man who says he was the victim in Thursday morning’s attack that was, it turns out, more assault than robbery:

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for running the story about the mugging this morning @ broadway and denny. Unfortunately, that was me getting mugged.

Luckily, the police apprehended the guy on Broadway, and I was able to positively identify him, and he didn’t make of with any of my stuff. I don’t think he even wanted anything, he just wanted to beat me up. The Pantages apartments also caught the whole thing on surveillance video, which they’re turning over to the police.

On a sadder note, there was a team of road construction workers who watched the whole thing happen, didn’t call the police or intervene, and after it was over didn’t even ask If I was alright. Pretty pathetic.

Thanks for all the good work!

The victim tells CHS that the woman with the suspect explained that the man “had been partying too late.” The victim said he was not seriously injured in the incident.

  • TV news crew protection: Police were called to Cal Anderson’s Bobby Morris field Thursday morning just after 6 AM when a homeless man “attacked” TV news crews there to cover an early rally as part of a day of strikes against fast food chains in Seattle. According to precinct radio dispatch, a man was reportedly harassing crews working at 11th and E Olive St by “putting his face in the cameras” and “pulling on the cords.” Police arrived to find the man had entered the park, was taking off his clothes, and appeared “intoxicated.” It’s not clear from the dispatches what became of the man. The county’s sobering unit does not appear to have been sent to the scene.
