  • Suspect goes to emergency room: SPD’s response to a burglary call involving an apparently mentally ill or extremely high or intoxicated man Saturday morning in the 300 block of Harvard Ave E turned ugly and ended with the suspect bloodied and inside what appears to be a device referred to as a “spit bag” by police. A CHS reader directed us to their video of the arrest’s aftermath, below. CHS’s details of the incident are not yet confirmed by police. The video contains violent language and shows the suspect in the bloodied hood designed to prevent spitting.

According to East Precinct and Seattle Fire radio dispatches, police were called to a residential building in the area to a report that a man had ripped down a fence and was on the patio of an apartment holding a brick and then a shovel as a man and a woman called police inside. Police arrived shortly after the first call around 11:10 and contacted the suspect. Within 10 minutes, the suspect was reported in custody.

A few minutes later, a supervisor was called to the scene. That was followed by a call for medics to treat the arrested suspect who reportedly was bleeding profusely in the back of a squad car due to head injuries.

The suspect was transported to Harborview. We have no information on his condition at this time.

  • Harvard Ave phone rip-off: The victim in an early morning Wednesday street robbery walked to the East Precinct at 12th/Pine to report the incident. Details below. A search for the suspect was not successful. Screen Shot 2013-11-08 at 12.21.45 PM
  • Sex offender arrest: A convicted child rapist who reportedly dropped off the radar and was in violation of his parole was busted at the 16th/Madison 7-11 Thursday, according to the TV program Washington’s Most Wanted. We’re not sure who watches the show but supposedly a viewer’s tip helped U.S. Marshals Pacific NW Fugitive Apprehension Task Force track down their man. By the way, there was no notice by officials that the task force was searching for the man in the area. CHS surely would have shared the information had it been available.
  • Havana assault: Police were called to a serious assault reported at the Havana nightclub at 10th and Pike early last Sunday morning just after midnight following an altercation between security and a patron. Medics arrived to treat a 23-year-old male for what was described as “superficial” facial cuts. The report on the assault hasn’t yet been released but SPD documents indicate the incident is in the hands of the City Attorney to weigh possible charges.
  • 10th Ave bar bouncer phone robbery: A man reported this incident to police involving an alleged phone-busting bouncer at an unnamed 10th Ave nightspot:Screen Shot 2013-11-09 at 2.22.01 PM
  • 95 Slide hug or bump? Some witnesses to an assault early last Sunday morning outside 95 Slide said the victim was just trying to give somebody a hug. The others? They said the victim was the instigator: Screen Shot 2013-11-09 at 2.28.55 PM
  • E Pike burglary: An unidentified store in the 700 block of E Pike suffered an expensive break-in Wednesday morning. According to the SPD report on the incident, just after 5 AM Wednesday, the thief busted a glass door and did $1,000 in damage busting into the store so they could steal cash and change from the register. The owner’s alarm system went off at 5:14 AM but she reportedly canceled the alert as a false alarm before arriving later that morning and finding the glass door busted.
  • Safeway booze burglars: Thieves made off with 20 bottles of booze in a heist from the 22nd/Madison Safeway’s window display last weekend:Screen Shot 2013-11-09 at 2.26.17 PM Screen Shot 2013-11-09 at 2.26.25 PM

Safeway booze burglars: I’d always assumed that the window displays were dummies and that no store would put actual booze in the window.

(On a related note, I regret to this day that the diaper bag stolen by breaking the window of our parked car on the Seattle waterfront some 30 years ago did not contain a ripe diaper). This prompts me to suggest appropriate content for bottles of Scotch displayed in store windows.

The “10th Ave bar bouncer phone robbery” report is disturbing. Bar bouncers acting as thugs on the street, and police okay with it?

That’s pretty annoying. He should be able to file something with small claims court against the bar. Collecting is another matter though.

I am actually the person that this “10th ave bar bouncer phone robber” is talking about. The bouncer robbed me of my phone for recording his actions. This incident took place at MOE Bar. I am trying to figure out if I should take the bar to court or the individual bouncer.
