A series of gunshots rang out in the area around the 500 block of 22nd Ave E just before midnight breaking up an apparent Friday night party nearby. SPD was on the scene investigating the incident and talking with witnesses in the area. No victim was found at the scene.
Seattle Fire medics were called in to respond to a male with a cut to his head.
More than five shots could be heard in the incident. Police arrived to find multiple people in the street, cars leaving the area and shell casings on the ground near 22nd Ave and Mercer.
According to East Precinct radio dispatches, the suspect who was believed to have fired the shots was described as a black male in his late 20s, approximately 6’1″ and 200 pounds, with a short fade hair cut and wearing a black leather jacket, black t-shirt, and tan boots. Another male wearing a long-sleeve yellow shirt reportedly displayed a handgun during the incident. A male matching the first suspect’s description was contacted by police about 15 minutes after the incident but we don’t know if he was taken into custody.
This is a developing situation and we will update as we learn more and confirm details with SPD.
This just happened a few blocks from my apartment. I was out walking my dog, got back home and not five minutes later I hear 5-6 pops go off, then another three in response. No way it was gunfire. Then sirens. Suddenly there’s traffic on my block–20th and mercer, residential–including a cop car with its lights on. That was fucking gunfire? Jesus Christ. WTF.
2 blocks from the (Kyle Huff) massacre. hope no one was killed/seriously injured… close to home, damn…
YES, that was gunfire. We live on 22nd and the house parties that take place at this home have got to stop. I know a few people on that block, and I highly doubt that this behavior will continue.
I heard the noise from this party from a block away. After being women by a disturbance, I got up to look out my window. I thought I heard someone knocking at a door (these were the gunshots). Then two guys came running south on 22nd toward Madison. 5 minutes later, 7+ cop cars. The cops didn’t seem interested in the running guys when I mentioned them. Can someone please say exactly which house this was?
Just around corner from Kyle Huff thing- SAME block. Difference is lots more young kids sleeping in houses there these days (incl mine).
Alcohol and guns in spitting distance of sleeping kids.
Think about it,
Thought about it: STUPID!!!
You guys reading this? STUPID!!!
Saw a cop putting paper tents over each of the shell casings afterwards – there were at least 10 shots fired apparently. Does anyone know if the altercation was associated with the black fraternity house’s on 22nd Ave E?
I can’t find any information on the SPD twitter feed, komonews.com or any other news outlet. Very frustrating when CHS is the only news outlet to report what happened on my block.
I was at the party. In defense to the comments above, it was a dry party though that does not excuse the violence. It was all UW students, everyone needed a student id to get in (even though we got a close friend in by narrowing another friends id so it wasn’t THAT strict) it was just too many people in a small hot area. Literally hundreds of students in a fairly regular sized house. It was hot and you couldn’t walk without basically grinding on the person next to you. More than likely it was people that already had background and being in that small area together made things worse. Quality advise to anyone planning on partying: if you feel like you need to bring a gun to a party; you shouldn’t be going to a party.
I live next door. It is the Frat. The guys that live there are nice guys and respectful. There parties are just too big and out of control. I heard a lot of yelling and a girl came out and told me to call the police because some guys were fighting in the basement. , so I called the police but then heard the gunshots and called 911. I guess it was someone driving away firing into the air… Small parties from now on please
Small parties? I’d say NO parties. After this crap, if these were my neighbors I’d be calling cops on their parties at 11:01 if I heard the tiniest bit of noise.
“Respectful” by day and endangering neighbors and kids by night doesn’t cut it.
