It’s another weekend of construction work in preparation for 2014’s opening of the First Hill Streetcar line. Drivers — and bikers utilizing the newly opened Broadway bikeway (“Broadway is the new face of complete streets in Seattle“) — should be aware of a few issues this weekend:
Lane shifts and intersection construction activity on Broadway between East Howell Street and James Street October 26
SEATTLE —On Saturday, October 26 a contractor will be pulling overhead electrical wire for the First Hill Streetcar along Broadway between East Howell Street and James Street. During the first part of this activity, from 5 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m., both the north- and southbound lanes will be shifted to the west side of Broadway so work can be performed in the northbound travel lane. There will be short-term traffic delays at the intersections.
At the end of the wire pull traffic will be shifted back to its normal position and work will commence in the following intersections along Broadway (times are approximate):
11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Pine/Broadway and Union/Broadway intersections
4 – 10 p.m. Madison/Broadway intersection
Uniformed police officers and flaggers will direct traffic through the work areas. Expect lane reductions, lane shifts, overhead electrical work, work in the center of intersections and generally slower traffic. Access will be maintained to businesses and for pedestrians.
Fantastic video! Glad to see this project coming along.
The labyrinth of overhead wires at Broadway and Madison is amazing. I can’t imagine trying to figure out which wire goes to where.
It doesn’t look too much more complicated than what’s behind my TV :)
