State Senate committee boogies down to move ‘dance tax’ fix forward

How a bill becomes law in Washington State apparently involves MC Hammer. The Senate Ways and Means committee Friday in Olympia voted to move forward a bill seeking to end the so-called “dance tax” in the state. CHS has reported on local clubs hit by the tax including the Century Ballroom which is holding a series of fundraisers to try to cover some $90,000 owed due to the tax which critics say is inconsistently applied and too often a surprise to venues. SB 5613 still has to wend its way through the rest of the legislature but another barrier is down.
